Right Here, Right Now: San Antonio
On View: April 28 – August 5, 2018
Opening Reception: Friday, April 27, 2018 | 6:30–9PM
The first two exhibitions in CAMH’s Right Here, Right Now series resulted in solo projects initiated by CAMH’s curatorial staff with the Houston-based artists Debra Barrera, Amy Blakemore, Thedra Cullar-Ledford, Nathaniel Donnett, Susie Rosmarin, and Carrie Schneider. CAMH is pleased to announce Right Here, Right Now: San Antonio, the third project in this ongoing series.
With more than a dozen artists and collaborative groups who are soon to be officially announced, this exhibition curated by Dean Daderko with Patricia Restrepo will include artworks by multiple generations of artists presented in a series of loosely thematic groupings. Variously focusing on abstraction, the body and figure, fabric and weaving, performance, photography, and sculpture, the artworks included in Right Here, Right Now: San Antonio are a testament to the richness of the city’s creative community. Seen together, they combine to open up dialogues about narrative and fluid, complex, and ever-changing notions around identity—especially Latinx identities. From quilts and stitcheries to immersive video environments, paintings, ceramic sculpture, and socially-engaged artworks, CAMH is pleased to expand the geographic scope of this series with this exhibition of artworks by San Antonio artists.
