Hailing from Houston’s Southeast side, Nick Gaitan is an internationally touring musician, songwriter, community scholar, event producer, and teacher. He writes and records his own music, which is influenced by his Mexican-American roots and the sounds he grew up with as a native Houstonian. With a career spanning over two decades, Gaitan focuses on projects that highlight local Chicano history that is often overlooked. He is a co-founder of Tejas Got Soul 2: Early Chicano Sounds of Houston, acting as a researcher and bandleader for live and recorded performances that preserve Houston’s Chicano musical heritage. Gaitan is also a team member of Sonidos de Houston, an initiative that documents Houston’s Chicano music scene.
