Rashawn Griffin: Everything – Nothing

October 17, 2018 - February 28, 2019

About

Rashawn Griffin’s exhibition EverythingNothing continues his ongoing exploration of the visual language of shelters, clothing and human behavior, by placing himself in a performance situation in which he is expected to move through a designated spatial area or make meaningful gestures. Griffin’s exhibition functions as a natural, and site-specific extension of the walk-in room he created for a 2014 group exhibition at the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art. Griffin works in painting, sculpture, and installation, using everyday materials ranging from fabric and tassels to paint and cookies. His practice explores poetic relationships between objects, architecture, and painting. Griffin was born in Los Angeles, raised in the Kansas City area, and studied at the Maryland Institute of Art and Yale University, prior to resettling in the area. His practice explores poetic relationships between objects, architecture, and painting, and is suggestive of ritualistic activities that aspire to connecting people more meaningfully with their immediate surroundings.

Rashawn’s Everything – Nothing was the first exhibit at Crossroads Hotel – on display for the hotel’s opening in October of 2018.
