You are invited to an evening of poetry and prose. Houston-based authors and poets share new works inspired by the exhibition Cauleen Smith: We Already Have What We Need.

Submission Information

For the participants that would like to be a featured reader at the Reading, they can submit their work to wordsandartsubmissions@gmail.com by midnight on Saturday, September 4, 2021. Works must be one page or less and must respond to the artworks in Cauleen Smith: We Already Have What We Need. Submissions are judged by Mary Wemple and a guest judge. Featured readers will be announced on Friday, September 17, 2021. It is not required to attend the workshop in order to submit writing to be a featured reader.

About Words & Art

Words & Art is a workshop and reading series inspired by the art in Houston, Texas. It was founded and organized by local poet and artist Mary Wemple. She holds bachelor’s degrees in both English and Studio Art from the University of Houston and a MFA in Studio Art from the Maryland Institute College of Art.
