“Basketball and contemporary art are neighbors that just need a reason to visit,” stated Phillip Pyle, II, the Graphic Designer and Retail Manager at Contemporary Arts Museum Houston (CAMH). In celebration of the 75th anniversary of the National Basketball Association (NBA), CAMH has partnered with the Houston Rockets to commission eleven limited-edition posters for the team’s Remix Night games during their 2021–2022 season. With each game honoring a different Rockets legend, a local artist with an interest in basketball was chosen to create original artwork for the corresponding Remix Night. These pieces reflect the craft and imagination of both their practices and the sport, culminating into a unique cross-disciplinary collaboration. This initiative is part of CAMH’s strategy to embrace unexpected contexts and reach new audiences beyond the walls of the Museum.
The posters, signed by both the Rockets legend and the artists, are on view at CAMH in the Nina and Michael Zilkha gallery.
