About

Shared Grounds is an exhibition in celebration of the Teaching Artist-in-Classroom Project (TAIC) at Contemporary Arts Museum Houston (CAMH). Teaching artist Carlos Mendoza worked in collaboration with students from Impact Leadership Academy at Wilson and their teacher, Toby McCraw on a series of large paintings. The work features eight-foot-tall canvases, spanning more than eight panels, combining student perspectives and the Teaching Artist’s vision to explore place, memory, and the future. Through layered imagery of figures, gestures, and everyday scenes, the exhibition reflects on challenges, hopes, and shared experiences across generations—offering a vision of connection, care, and possibility.

Support

Thanks to Public Art at the University of Houston through the RAMP Mentorship program for their support of this project and exhibition.
