Spring Break Community Celebration
About
Join us for CAMH’s Spring Break Community Celebration honoring Latino and Hispanic Heritage. This is a free, all-ages event.
Create a sculptural collage inspired by Vincent Valdez's 1953 Chevrolet ice cream truck, El Chavez Ravine (2005–2007), enjoy a self-guided tour using our bilingual audio guide, and bring artwork or photos to document your activism as an artist for the Artivist History Harvest hosted by the Collective of Progressive Educators (COPE) in collaboration with archivist and curator Mikaela Selley. You can also peruse through a pop-up selection of books by Latiné & Latin American authors from Dreamers Books + Culture, curated by owner and founder Dr. Elizabeth Farfán-Santos and learn more about city wide events with Do713.
DJ set by Whitney Screwston.
Plus, don't miss this opportunity to view the Vincent Valdez: Just a Dream . . . exhibit before it closes!
Hands-On Activity
Sculpture Collage
Inspired by artist Vincent Valdez's desire to share overlooked political histories through artworks such as his painted 1953 Chevrolet ice cream truck, El Chavez Ravine (2005–2007), create a sculptural collage of a paper vehicle.
Workshop
Artivist History Harvest
CAMH, in partnership with COPE and Mikaela Selley, will document the history of Houston’s modern art scene. Our Artivist History Harvest will preserve the diverse voices of local artists to help teach about how contemporary art informs the community’s history.
