This exhibition is the first museum show of the work of Patti Smith, a well-known symbol of 1970s music counter-culture. For more than three decades, Patti Smith’s work as a poet, musician, and performer has been widely admired and celebrated. However, her work as a visual artist, although intimately connected with her life and her music, is less well-known. The exhibition presents Smith’s drawings from the 1960s to the opening years of the new millennium. The catalogue includes an excerpt from a longer essay by John Smith and brief documentation on the artist’s career.
