Summer Community Celebration
About
Spend a summer afternoon indoors and explore CAMH’s current exhibitions, Theaster Gates: The Gift and The Renege and Olivia Erlanger: If Today Were Tomorrow, through a variety of hands-on activities at the Museum!
Hands-on Activities
Workshop | Let's Make Mermaid Tales
Inspired by Olivia Erlanger’s fantastical ideas of mermaids and exploration of mobility and mermaid’s physiology, create a mermaid tail and visit with a mermaid! This workshop will be led by CAMH FAQ Team educator, Janice Warren.
Drop-In Experience | Text Collage
Inspired by WE WILL SAVE OURSELVES, 2024 by Theaster Gates, collaborate on a text-based collage to encourage dialogue on present-day challenges and important current events.
Performance | Mermaid Nikki of Odysea Mermaids
Visit Mermaid Nikki on site at Contemporary Arts Museum Houston!
Community Partners
Houston Freedmen's Town Conservancy (HTFC) will lead visitors through a historical discussion about Freedmen's Town as they interact with a fact sheet and word search. Participants will also be encouraged to think about preservation and be able to view photographs and bricks from Freedmen's Town will be on view to touch and browse.
Accessibility
