The Way Fellowship Church in partnership with the Houston Freedmen’s Town Conservancy and Freedmen’s Town Preservation Coalition, is proud to present The Juneteenth Worship Experience: A Story of and Journey to Freedom. This event is sponsored by the Houston Endowment, Contemporary Arts Museum Houston, and Buffalo Bayou Partnership.
One hundred and fifty-six years ago this June, news of President Abraham Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation finally reached the enslaved peoples of Texas. This year, we celebrate this milestone in our nation’s history with an evening of inspiration and remembrance.
The event is free and open to the public (with registration) and will take place on the stage at The Water Works at Buffalo Bayou Park on the evening of Saturday, June 12th.
Highlights include uplifting music, praise, dance, and worship from an incredible array of local artists, including the Freedmen’s Town Mass Choir directed by Brian Dunlap. Hosted by Anthony Valary of MAJIC 102.1 & PRAISE 92.1 FM, featuring the Texas Southern University Debate Team, Se7en the Poet, and a Proclamation by Mayor Turner.
With food trucks and market vendors, this event is sure to be one for the books.
