Photo Walk in Freedmen’s Town
About
Join three artists from the exhibition THIS WAY: A Houston Group Show, for a tour of Houston’s historic Freedmen’s Town and an opportunity to take photographs.
Participants are encouraged to think more deeply about visual storytelling, the ethics of photojournalism, and photographing a community while working directly with artists Colby Deal, Priscilla T. Graham, and Gem Hale.
The tour will meet and start at the African American History Research Center (1300 Victor Street, Houston, Texas 77019) before making several stops throughout the surrounding neighborhood. Parking is available at the Research Center as well. The Research Center has water fountains and restrooms available and will close at 5PM the day of the program.
This program is free, but registration is required. Participants should be over 16 years of age.
The tour requires walking through the neighborhood. Please bring water, wear comfortable walking shoes and comfortable, layered clothing in preparation for any changes in the weather. Participants are welcome to bring any sort of camera including their phone to use on the tour. Please contact ytorres@camh.org if you have any specific accessibility requests.
THIS WAY: A Houston Group Show is on view at CAMH through Sunday, March 24, 2024.
