Register to participate in a teen-only Zoom workshop by creating an installation and treating the Zoom frame as your canvas for a virtual artwork. This workshop is open to participants anywhere in the U.S. who are 14-18 years old.
Zoom provides a frame of how you are seen (if you choose to turn your camera on). We can each choose to share information about ourselves by what we include in our background (is your bed made or not?), who might be passing through (is that your mom?!), or just a profile picture (is that your dog?). Similar to social media – through the Zoom experience you are choosing your frame and what you want your fellow workshop participants to see. This workshop is a practice in creating an installation and treating the Zoom frame as your canvas for a virtual artwork.
Prior to joining, create a backdrop (using a green screen or designing a space within your home), bring a subject (we suggest bringing yourself – but it could be a puppet, a pet, or an avatar), and a storyboard of two to four additional images.
CAMH’s Teen Council Coordinator has suggestions for your best experience in the workshop:
- Download and experiment with Zoom in advance of the workshop.
- Become familiar with the lighting in your home at 6PM, adjust the lighting as necessary to create your mood and frame.
- Tell friends and family about your workshop.
- Remind anyone in your household to not disturb you during the workshop.

About CAMH’s Teen Council
The Teen Council is a group of dedicated high-school students who are employed by the museum to create programming for their peers. Council members participate in a two year-long program where they receive in-depth, behind-the-scenes museum experience; learn about pathways to creative careers; and develop leadership, collaboration, and critical thinking skills while gaining real-world experience planning exhibitions and events in a museum setting.
