HISD TAG Pop Up Exhbition At Montrose Collective Michael Robinson 2000x1250

Houston Independent School District

Contemporary Arts Museum Houston (CAMH) and Houston Independent School District (HISD) work closely together to create a bridge between the classroom and the Museum.

In close partnership since 2016, CAMH provided professional development for HISD art teachers and expanded the relationship in 2020 when CAMH distributed art kits to teachers in need of supplies for their students. That same year CAMH worked with artist Nathaniel Donnett to partner with educators to exchange old backpacks for new backpacks and supplies as part of a public art installation.

Currently CAMH works closely with HISD teachers, administrators, and students through the Teacher Advisory Group (TAG), Teaching Artists in Classrooms (TAIC), Teen Council, and robust tour program CAMH works to be flexible and offer direct support to HISD teachers and students. The support often comes in the form of art supplies, bus stipends for field lessons, opportunities to present artwork, and pathways to connect with other teachers and teaching artists.
