Apply to Teen Council 2025-2026
Contemporary Arts Museum Houston (CAMH)’s Teen Council, for its 15th iteration, is seeking teens to conceive, support, and realize teen programming in the 2025-2026 school year.
Teen Council is a teen-led, 14-member cohort of paid museum workers, tasked with creating and sustaining the infrastructure for Houston’s teen creative and artistic community. Over the course of the school year, Teen Council conceives and executes public projects in collaboration with CAMH professional staff. In the past 25 years, these have included battles of the bands, art markets, haircuts, fashion shows, film festivals, poetry readings, performance showcases, and publishing magazines and catalogs.
In addition to being paid a semesterly stipend, members of Teen Council receive mentorship, bond with teens from all over Houston, learn the inner workings of a contemporary arts museum, and explore the greater landscape of the arts in Houston. Each week, members develop projects, go on field trips, meet arts professionals, and support museum activities. Current Teen Council members review and interview incoming applicants.
Qualifications:
- Teens aged 13-19 years old may apply. Typically, members are 16-18 years-old. Enrollment in a school is not a prerequisite.
- Must be able to attend in-person meetings every Thursday during the school year, 4:30-6:30 PM at CAMH. Meetings are held in the Cullen Education Resource Room, located in the lower-level gallery (with the exception of field trip days, held in varying offsite locations). Teen Council is not convened during school holidays.
- Be available for an interview in late April/early May (dates TBD)
- Please note that Teen Council is not an artmaking group, and a prior artistic background is not a prerequisite for membership. Rather, Teen Council is dedicated to supporting teen artists, and to exploring the professional capacities of building arts infrastructure.
